HISTORY in the 19th and early 20th centuries
The French Revolution of 1789 was the decisive momentum for change in Europe, with a shift toward fraternity and equality for all people (note: equality here means that all people have the same dignity and are equal before the law).
This was followed by a phase of Enlightenment, which subsequently triggered a rollback of reactionary movements. And, especially in the first half of the 19th century, absolute monarchies were reinstated in some European countries.
And the ‘Wiener Kongress tanzte’ (1815 onwards). Nevertheless, during and after the Napoleonic era, there were visible and negotiated results in the form of geographical changes and border shifts in some European countries. Already during the Wiener Kongress and the following years, Chancellor Metternich became the dominant power figure in the Habsburg Empire.
Our microfiche edition of La Caricature (plus a printed, scholarly commentary text) dates from the first half of the 19th century. It is a milestone in the then-emerging visual satire of France as a means of graphic expression for political opposition.
Our ebook edition, The German Revolutionaries of 1848/49 and Their Impact on the Development of the USA in the 19th Century, contains works whose physical originals were collected primarily in institutions in the state of Wisconsin. In those days Wisconsin was a preferred immigration destination for German emigrants, especially in the mid-19th century. The 41 ebooks (from 53 titles) are in German Language, 12 ebooks are in English Lamguage. All these titles are categorized under the topic “Politics 19th & early 20th century.”.
The heading “Germany, Politics 19th & Early 20th Century” refers to titles that are particularly relevant to this topic.
We would also like to highlight titles on the topic of the persecution of socialists from 1878 to 1890. And to 66 titles under the headings “NAZI Germany, Organization” and “NAZI Germany Persecutions.”
A further 126 titles deal with political history in other European countries, mostly published in German translation.
